Job Summary:

This position seeks an individual to advance our antibody therapeutics programs to the clinic. The individual will be responsible for assisting our early and late research and development programs and will perform a broad range of experiments to support ongoing projects. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of excellent competency in laboratory research, with a focus on protein-related work, molecular biology, cell biology, and/or immunology, and should have a strong understanding of mammalian cell biology, biochemistry and chemical biology, and immuno-oncology. This position is located at our facility in San Diego, CA and will report to a Director at Phanes Therapeutics.

Required Experience and Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine molecular biology.
  2. Routine protein purification, including but not limited to:
    • FPLC operation for routine FPLC purification processes (Affinity, SEC, CEX, AEX, HIC).
    • FPLC purification method development.
    • Transient CHO cell transfection, cell culture clarification, and protein production.
  3. Perform biophysical and biochemical characterization and analysis of biologics using a wide range of techniques, and method development thereof.
    • Specific techniques include but are not limited to LC-MS, HIC-HPLC, SEC-HPLC, RP-HPLC, IEX-HPLC, CE-SDS, cIEF, and gel electrophoresis.
  4. Develop and carry out common laboratory assays, cell based assays, and functional immunological assays, including but not limited to:
    • ELISA based assays with antibodies, including multiple arm (bridging) ELISAs and ELISA method development.
    • Flow cytometry based assays with cell lines and primary cells.
    • PBMC and immune cell subset preparation from multiple sources..
    • PBMC based cytotoxicity assays.
    • PBMC based cell activation and cytokine release assays.
  5. Maintain detailed documentation of experiments through lab notebooks and pre-clinical study reports.
  6. Regularly communicate with team members regarding project status and advancement of project goals.

Key Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (BS/BA/MS) in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, or a related life sciences or engineering field.
  2. 0-5 years of postgraduate experience in a laboratory research and development setting (biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry is preferred).
  3. A strong background knowledge in biology, protein chemistry, molecular biology, and biochemistry is required.
  4. Experience with routine molecular biology is preferred.
  5. Experience and core knowledge of protein production and purification is preferred.
  6. Experience in biophysical and biochemical characterization and analysis of biologics is preferred.
  7. Experience in common laboratory assays, cell based assays, and functional immunological assays and assay development thereof is preferred.
  8. Excellent attention to detail, ability to design and perform experiments and maintain detailed and organized documentation.
  9. Able to collaborate proficiently with team members and contribute meaningfully towards project goals.

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $62,000.00 - $100,000.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.
